There is a distinctive nip in the air now as we sit on our patios enjoying those last few BBQs of the summer. As we begin to say goodbye to the warm weather and start moving back indoors, it’s a good time to consider how we might refresh our homes for the changing season.
Fall is typically time for ‘back-to-school’ and even though you may have left the halls of learning many years ago, there is that sense of ‘newness’ to this time of year. This is most often seen at the mall as the stores fill with all the new Fall fashions and it’s easy to spot a few colour trends as you browse the racks. Here are some that you might consider interpreting into your home this year:
Plum
Pantone’s 2014 colour of the year is Radiant Orchid. This is a lovely shade for warmer months but as the temperature drops, the colour begins to deepen. This is perfectly executed in an ombre throw from West Elm that transitions from the lighter hue to a more intensive plum.

Indigo
Your tranquil days at the lake are in the past and the storm clouds are moving in. Farrow and Ball’s 2014 trends included Stiffkey Blue and this muddy indigo fits the season perfectly.

Wine
One of the best parts about this time of year is that the tart apples of the summer have given way to the sweet reds. This table lamp from Urban Barn in wine is an easy way to incorporate this colour trend into your home.

Amber
As the days start to cool, we’re spending less time on the weekend mowing and more time raking. This sculptural vase from Crate & Barrel in amber mimics the colour of falling leaves.
